LIBRARY OF THINGS GUIDELINES

The Library of Things is a collection of non-traditional materials.

Materials from the Library of Things must be checked out from and returned to the circulation desk during the library’s hours of operation.

Loan periods will be decided by library staff and will vary depending on the material(s) and time of year.

Library of Things materials that are overdue will incur a charge of $5.00 a day. The library reserves the right to charge a $2.00 cleaning fee for materials that are returned dirty.

Who can check out Library of Things objects?

A valid Hicksville Public Library card must be used and the patron must be 18 years old or older and in good standing with the library.

Library of Things Rules
  • A maximum of 3 objects can be reserved per household (i.e. those patrons living at the same mailing address) once a month. Once the 3 object limit has been reached, patrons must wait until the next month to reserve objects.
  • Only 1 of the same object per month per household (i.e. those patrons living at the same mailing address)
  • Objects are subject to availability, and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis up to 90 days in advance. The Library has the right to monitor usage to ensure fairness and access for the greatest number of patrons and may restrict borrowing privileges if these rules are not followed.
